OSINSA investigated the age of health workers Argentina. This information is critical when planning how many workers must be trained in the coming years. Partial results (from a survey conducted in three provinces: La Rioja, Buenos Aires and Santa Fe) reveal that the age distribution is generally good, although in the public sector «aging» is greater. We also anticipate some alarming numbers coming from the nursing sector. .
According to our study, the average age of the total health care system is located around 37 years. It is a good age. However, there is an important difference between the two subsectors (public and private). We note an increased «aging» of public over private, where a larger population of workers approaching retirement age is observed. It is also a very significant difference in the average with respect to the specific area of nursing. According to these data, it is urgent to work towards covering the replacement rates required to meet future vacancies.
The data comes from 2,245 surveys processed so far.
According to the information provided, 55.8% of respondents integrates the «average adult» group, i.e those between 31 and 50 years old; 22.5% is «adult» (21-30 years) and 16.9% were between 51 and 60 years when interviewed; the ends of the age groups; older adults (i.e over 60) account for 2.8% of the total and those under 21 years only reach 0.5%.
The «young adults» prevail in the private subsector: ages ranging from 21 to 40 obtained nearly 60% of the total, while those working in the public sector account for just over 43.3 %; ie a difference of over 15 percentage points observed in the age of workers of both subsectors. Instead, the «adult media» and «elderly» between the two segments represent a total of 54.1% grouped in the public subsector, compared with 38.9% in the private subsector, which means a difference of just over 15 percentage points.
